What is it about Kate Moss? The sphinx-like, doe-eyed supermodel – best known for dating drugged-out rocker Pete Doherty – can do no wrong. After barely a month in rehab, she was welcomed back to the fashion fold last year with more designer endorsements and advertisement contracts than ever.
And now she’s setting the retail world on its head with her very own clothing line. So I'm walking around London on vacation and I've already spotted a curious crowd and a TV camera crew gathering outside Topshop on Oxford Street in London to get a glimpse of Kate doing a rare personal appearance launching her new duds. Kate will be on display posing (along with mannequins) in the store windows this evening and limited batches of shoppers will be let in for twenty minutes, starting at 8 pm until midnight. Only five items per customer, please. Topshop expects the line to sell out by evening's end. Which translates to lots of disappointed young girls who hope to be mistaken for Kate Moss simply by wearing bits of her clothing.
Kate’s reportedly getting 3 million pounds – about $6 million - for the 50-piece line of duds including a vest, leather jacket, skinny jeans, T-shirts and a one-shouldered dress. Word is that her beau Pete will not be there. Something about him being really busy getting a new anti-drug implant put in his arm. Seriously. Wonder if they can do a brain implant as well while they’re at it.

Style junkies have been up on The Facehunter for some time now. The street-style blog of Yvan Rodic documents the hippest people from all over the world, including most of Europe and other fashion hot spots like New York and Sao Paulo. His site skews a little younger and more hipster-y than The Sartorialist, probably the other most famous street-style blog. Anyway, Rodic is leaving Paris, his home for 3 years, and moving to London. London really has become the epicenter of fashion lately, so the move makes sense. Rodic also had some interesting things about Paris, which apparently is getting a little stale:
"The image of Paris you get from the fashion industry is a million miles away from the 'real people' who mostly don't get off on dressing up. Old people still have a snappy sense of style, but the young have lost their heritage and aren't experimental enough to replace it. I might as well just say it, Paris has lost its sense of style. London, New York, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Reykjavik are the most inspiring places I've been - places where you can find people inventing new cultures, new ways of dressing, or at least enjoying elegance."
So there you have it--New York is officially cooler than Paris, and at least as cool as Copenhagen. Awesome.

Kate Moss made an impressively brief appearance last night in the window of Topshop on Oxford Street in London before sipping champagne with the store owners and bolting before any of her fashion fans were allowed in the store to shop. "About ten minutes, " said a security officer. "Twelve seconds," according to several other style sources on the scene. Either way, it was just a decent day's work for the scrawny supermodel who earns an estimated 3 million British pounds (that's about $6 million) for lending her name to the new Topshop fashion line. Word is she will do the same on May 8 in New York when she will appear - briefly - at Barneys in New York to promote the clothing line stateside. Just what we need; more over-priced denim shorts, chiffon floral frocks and skimpy T's. I'm sticking to Old Navy.
Speaking of stringy-haired party girls, the US version of Kate Moss has also been making a name for herself in London recently....

The Mail on Sunday reported that Kristen Dunst and Johnny Borrell are giving Kate Moss and Pete Doherty a run for their title of Uber Party Couple. Drunkst, as she’s been monikered by Perez Hilton, has been seen doing London town with her Razorlight British rocker beau. She’s been seen “sozzled, singing karaoke in a pub in the wee small hours, and throwing chips out of the window." Hey, when in Rome. Make that London.

Will Posh snag Gwen's designer? According to several British papers, Victoria Beckham’s brand new clothing line may get a major boost if she succeeds in hiring former model/drag queen Zaldy Goco, best known as Gwen Stefani’s former stylist/designer for her wildly successful L.A.M.B. line.
Frankly, I can’t think of two more disparate styles than sleek/chic Posh and eccentric/edgey Gwen. But the drag queen influence may be just what the doctor ordered for Posh's clothing collection, which will hopefully fare better than her reality TV show concept about her (yawn) move to LA.
Apparently, her best shopping pal, Katie Holmes, isn't going to be in the reality show in part because she is now esconced in her new life in Shreveport, Louisiana. She's shooting her new movie there and was recently seen (gasp!) shopping at a local Target store. Hope Posh doesn't hear about that. She'd probably think, "You can lead a horse to couture, but you can't make 'em chic."

Behold: the Almighty Golden Blow-Dryer. (Please note plugs dangling down like strings of beaded crystal). This unbelievably diva chandelier could only be the handiwork of Ricky's NYC--and in fact, it's the centerpiece of the chain's new salon off Crosby Street. 
Shears Hustle & Blow has been tacked onto the back of the flagship Ricky's for only a few weeks, and might just be the new place for all things punky and cheap. Any kind of hair can be managed here (cuts start at $50 for women, $35 for guys), and magenta mohawked stylists work their magic in front of mirrors decorated with Ouji Board sun and moon designs. In case there's a wait, five iPod minis are docked at listening stations and filled with the indie, the edgy, the classic, and some artists you've probably never even heard of.
Thursdays through Saturdays, a DJ keeps the place rocking live. But best of all, the back of the salon opens straight up onto the flagship Ricky's store. So if color line Framesi doesn't do it for you, just follow the wavy neon pink lights into the shop, pick up a bottle of your chosen hue, and the salon will happily use it.
